Tony Robinson Mural - State Street Mural Art 2020

After the murder of George Floyd in 2020 that sparked many protests worldwide, the citizens of Dane County did not shy from sharing their voices to stand for justice.

Unfortunately, looting occurred not long after on the popular State Street in Madison, WI. Many businesses were broken into and were left with boarded up windows. The City of Madison’s Art Department started the State Street Mural Project for local artists to beautify the boards with work reflecting the Black Lives Matter movement, police brutality, injustice, and words of encouragement to humanity.

I felt called to be a part of something that is very impactful as I am passionate about Black lives and any other life that has been cut short. Going public with my artistry for the first time, I had the honor to co-create this mural with my fellow artist friend Danielle Mielke, and with finishing touch help from my sister Alana. This mural is of Tony Robinson, a young man many of my friends knew, who was fatally shot by an officer in Madison on March 6, 2015 after his friend called the police to provide him help for Tony. This is a case Madison will never forget and this mural was a reminder.
